Hi, first off let me say you guys are an excellent resource and I am quite grateful for all the work you have all put into the wonderful material available online.
My question relates specifically to a low-income senior's social housing neighbourhood. I am presently an interning student with a university-community partnership and I have been noticing that we seem to be getting the same core group of people consistently but we do not see many of the almost 423 residents. I was just wondering is there any literature that can point me into how best to outreach in this neighbourhood? Thank you very much

I am a volunteer with the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association of California. Many of the individual lawyer's clients are shocked to find out the extensive prison terms they face because of illegal drugs. I am considering a media campaign to warn drug users of the severe criminal penalties. What led to this idea is to find an overall hook that benefits the public that lawyers can get behind. I started it because I have heard that the country of Singapore warns visitors via billboards that if they are caught with illegal drugs that they will be executed within 24 hours. Why not warn Americans of the extensive charges awaiting them? "jail prevention" if you will.

We have an awards program for members of our organization. One award is the Employee of the Year award. In the past we have had all those that are nominated come to the stage and info is read on why they were nominated for each nominee. We then announce the winner and the winner remains on stage to receive the award. Others in the organization feel this is awkward, that the nominees should not be on stage, just the winner. I feel the nominees are being recognized by being on stage even if they are not the winner. Any suggestions on how this should be done? One individual who was nominated for the Employee of the Year award didn't even want to go unless she was the winner....what the heck? How do we make everyone feel comfortable.

Hello, I am currently in the process of doing a community advocacy project for my Social Welfare Policy class. I have focused on working with the homeless population of Riverside (city). Based on a needs assessment (surveys, focus groups, and interviews)it has been determined that their current need is basic necessities (toiletries). I have been trying to find the best way to approach the mayor , but I am terrified of public speaking. Do you have any suggestions/ advice as to how I can approach a city government representative and make a good statement as to why homeless populations should also be provided with basic necessities? I researched this topic and do not see why the state can't aid homeless individuals with basic needs, when jail inmates who are classified as indigent are provided with these needs that state funds.

if you have a conference of 500 people,and you'll have a dinner where you will have only three dishes example, 1.-chicken, 2.-pork, 3.-salmon. the people who will attend reserved 3 moths previous of the conference and they already choose what kind the food they would like. So, how can I manage this situacion. you can't separese for sections because your like chicken and your husban likes salmon. if you will have a buffet according on what they choose before then at the dinner they change their mind I think those examples aren't work, well I don't know so that's whay I'm aking you. What literature base or examples can we use to explain to our funders that the time organizational change takes to effect indidivual outcomes is likely to take longer than the time individual level interventions take to effect individual outcomes? I am working with a CBO to help them explain to funders the importance of systemic change but also communicate that the same timeframe for demonstrating effects may not apply. I know I could spend some time searching this, but if anyone has this info at their fingertips, it would be a great help! Thank you!
