WHO Centre Collaborators
Angie León Salas
Angie is a Pharmacist from Costa Rica. She graduated from the Universidad de Costa Rica in 2005. Before traveling to Lawrence, Kansas, she worked in the School of Pharmacy at the Universidad de Costa Rica. During the time that she worked for that institution, she collaborated with different courses as Pharmacology and Toxicology. She also worked for the School of Pharmacy Leadership Project where she developed several health-related workshops. The main target population of those workshops was primary school children. They learned about types of medicines, their uses and the importance of not taking any medication without parental supervision. In addition, the Leadership Project carried out similar education projects in Talamanca, an indigenous area of my country.
She says Public Health is her call. She is looking for a Masters in that area. Also, she is really interested in Health Education, Leadership, and drug abuse prevention. She chose to be engaged in this work with the Community Tool Box because she believes that the mission of the Community Tool Box has materialized as a key platform for the development and support of different community organizations and initiatives. She thinks it is inspiring to know that volunteers are collaborating to spread the reach of this initiative beyond cultural boundaries, and day after day, more people from different parts of the world are enriching the Community Tool Box as well as themselves.
Angie is collaborating with translation and cultural adaptation of some sections of the Community Tool Box into Spanish. She feels this project enables her to learn and help at the same time.
