WHO Centre Collaborators

Regina Calcagno

Regina was born in Argentina in a multicultural family and she has also lived in Quebec, Canada. She was very lucky to travel to different countries, being able to make friends from different backgrounds and cultures. Regina is an activist of HR in Rosario, Argentina. She is one of the youngest female union representatives in her country. She defends young worker’s rights, especially those working in call centers. Regina and some friends founded an NGO called AGENDA XXI to work on Economical, Social and Cultural rights for youth at a local, national and international level. She works part-time in a call center ,where she has been voted by her co-workers as Union Representative, and as a freelance translator (in English, French and Spanish).

Since she was very young, Regina has always been engaged in volunteer work. She has volunteered in local NGOs, national campaigns and even at the international level. She has volunteered with AFS Intercultural Programs, with the Council of Europe in France and Kosovo, and she is currently an Action Partner of the Oxfam International Youth Partnerships.  She has always considered it very important to use her knowledge and her experience in ways that could be helpful to others.  She was interested in this project since the minute she saw the advertisement for translators because the Community Tool Box is actually about transferring knowledge and experience to others. Because of her volunteer experience, she has become a freelance translator, and knows how hard budgeting and volunteerism can be for an NGO, she decided to volunteer for other NGOs and civil groups that might need her help (apart from her daily work).  At this moment she is engaged with us, the Community Tool Box, and Migrants Right International. She considers that only good causes, such as this, are the way to reach development, peace and understanding among human beings.

Currently, Regina is translating some documents from English to Spanish in the Community Tool Box and she is engaged to volunteer until the last word.
