    Home-Start was founded in Leicester, UK, in 1973 by the late Margaret Harrison. Home-Start International (now known as Home-Start Worldwide) was started in 1999 with the purpose of offering training, information and guidance to those wanting to start Home-Start in their own countries, and to support existing Home-Starts throughout the world. The Home-Start network operates successfully in 22 countries. I am one of the multi-national team of Trustees of Home-Start Worldwide.
    We are currently writing a guide for people who have heard about Home-Start and are wondering whether it would be a good idea to start a scheme in their own country. Home-Start is a family support charity where volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to young families under stress, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown, and emphasising the pleasures of family life. As people investigate setting Home-Start up in their country they will need to do a 'Community Needs Assessment'. Being able to use some of the information from the Community Tool Box in this section of our guide has been amazing. We are grateful for their generosity in sharing!

    I'm the Director of the Youth and Family Services Division at my agency. I oversee programs that provide case management and therapeutic services to low income students and their families. Our work takes place both within the school (which are community school modeled services) and in the community.
    Parent engagement and community education and development are embedded in our community school mission. We want to find ways to strategically, efficiently and effectively elicit input from families and the community so that the programs and services we offer are a reflection of what they see as the needs. We want to help the community take ownership of identifying ways to meet needs by leveraging their assets and taking ownership of the challenge.

    I am an adjunct faculty member at Springfield College School of Professional and Continuing Studies on the St. Johnsbury campus. We provide a unique weekend and online program for adults who work in the field of human services. I have worked in the higher education for a decade, and I teach at both the Community College of Vermont and Springfield College. I have a background in family services and early childhood education. I serve on a number of boards and councils in Vermont that work to find community-based solutions to address social and economic challenges.
    As part of the undergraduate program at Springfield College School of Professional and Continuing Studies, all students complete a 4-course sequence learning about the theory and practice of participatory action research. This summer, I will be teaching the first course in this series, entitled: Issues in Research, and we will be using the Community Tool Box as the central resource for our inquiry into the process of PAR.

    Since turning sixty years old, I've taken a different view of life and my role in it. Today I see too many young people missing out on the opportunity to pursue a higher education. Along with that, our own communities are eroding from lack of support for core nonprofit organizations. The rise of crowd- funding as a means to offset conventional funding gives us an option that can unify our communities and educate our young people about the benefits of small actions that can make a big impact.
    I can't say what I have not done yet, but my hope is to use Community Tool Box to aid in the teaching of our team members and leaders in the community as to how we can better arrive at the goals that we have set for our campaigns. Funding nonprofits, building relationships with our young people and developing funding for higher educational pursuits are our primary goals. We are just beginning, and we need all the help that we can get. Thank you very much, from all of us.

    I am the Director of the Promise Community initiative for the state of Vermont. Promise Communities are place based initiatives for communities in rural VT, funded through the Race to the Top- Early Learning Challenge grant.
    I just found this resource and it is just great to see such a wealth of information that supports the work we are doing in a great easy to use format. We have been doing this work and pulling from a variety of resources yet this is the most comprehensive and easy to use. We will be looking at it more to see how it can support our work as we move forward. We are less than a year into our community work. Thank you.

I lead a small administration and works crew that delivers services to a town and rural area that relies on sheep and wheat economically. We need more as we are ageing, shrinking in numbers and have low incomes and low property values.     My name is Oksie. I am 31 and and married with 2 children. I graduated from University of Papua New Guinea with a Bachelors Degree in Social Works in 2010. I have worked with couple of NGOs, the current being Care International in PNG. I have just established a community based organisation (Agarabi Community Development Agency) with the vision to see a poverty free community and where everyone is empowered.
    The organisation is still in its infancy and I am very pleased that the Community Tool Box is very useful as it helps me almost everything I need to know about community development and how to manage a CBO with some experiences that I have gained while working other international NGOs.     I'm a 60 years of age and for the past 5 years I've been gaining the knowledge and qualification to work with people of all ages within my community who suffer from alcohol and drug misuse.
    I'm a humanitarian a feminist and I believe that through education people from different cultures can learn how to live together in peace.
    I've not tried using the community tool box as yet however, I shall be looking into within the next few hours. I might need some help.
