Background and Professional Interests:
Valorie Lynn Carson, M.S., is a research associate of the Work Group for Health Promotion and Community Development, a program of the Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies at the University of Kansas. Her work involves training and supporting users of an online documentation system which tracks community and system change, writing support materials for the Community Tool Box, and evaluating and providing technical assistance to community health initiatives such as the Kansas City Chronic Disease Coalition in Kansas City, Missouri. Additionally, Ms. Carson is co-author of multiple research articles and several manuals for health promotion and community development work. Ms. Carson received her M.S. in Psychology from the Finch University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School and worked as a research assistant and neuropsychology specialist at the University of Illinois - Chicago Hospital's Department of Psychiatry prior to joining the Work Group. Her research interests are primarily focused on how to reduce risk factors for chronic disease through community-based efforts, especially among underserved populations.
