Question:
Hi, I am a Settlement Outreach Worker for Cornwall Immigrant Resource Centre. I am trying to start up workshops and activities to promote community awareness. Because I am working with immigrants, I try to find out what it is they are looking for. I have been told that conversion circles, as well as cooking clubs are great.
Answer:
An excellent souse of information is The Community Toolbox: /en/tablecontents Especially see Part B on comunity assessment and Part C on promoting interest and participation. Often immigrants are concerned about their youth. If that is true for your group, consider starting a youth mentoring program focussed on immigrant youth. For a review of mentoring, see http://www.melissainstitute.org/documents/TMI_Mentoring_Report51-2.pdf
