Nurse Manager of Ketchikan Public Health Center which is a state facility. We are working on coalition building at the ground level with prevention. Most of the representatives are from social service agencies and prevention is new to them. They are also primarily youth focused and my goal is to educate about the WHOLE prevention, healthier community concept. We also have an asset development initiative that is housed in the health center and we are trying to incorporate asset building into all we do including grant proposals with the prevention coalition.

Five Mountains Medical is trying to assessing how health the community is (good place to live, work, play, raise a family, heal)--and we're like to benefit from indicators already developed (and in use) for small areas. We have lots of information on process---it's finding actual matrices of constructs, indicators, specific measures and data bases---preferrably, used. We've located the "usuals" such as Healthy People 2000 and 2001--but's it's proving quite a challenge to get beyond the general exhortations to virtue to pragmatics: actual use of matrices by communities to assess and improve. Hope the U. Kansas site (recommended by Dr Brett Hodson of Alberta, Canada, will be helpful!
