Hi, I am a community health researcher and consultant working independently in the province of British Columbia, Canada. I really appreciate the wealth of information that your group has compiled. As well, thank you for making it so accessible. Once I have had an opportunity to try some of the tools out will get back with a summary of how it went.

CVD Prevention Program Manager, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. A CDC funded program to build state-wide infrastructure to address the major CVD issues in SC - #1 in the US in incidence of stroke among middle aged persons. The program operates on the concept that communities can help themselves to become healthier and has an ecological focus - to change policy and environments to support healthy heart lifestyles - specifically in the physical activity and nutrition arena. If anyone using this site has any information of similar attempts which have been evaluated, I would truly appreciate the info.

The Community Development and Health Network is a voluntary membership organisation that is committed to promoting and supporting community action on health issues. The organisation has been in existence since 1989, but only became a funded organisation in 1995. The Community Development and Health Network is made up of 149 paid members. The current balance is 68% voluntary/community sector, and 32% statutory bodies. The membership meets together four times a year. The emphasis is on informal support and information exchange in addition to examining specific themes or issues, for example, Rural Community Health. The Executive Committee is elected by network members at the Annual General Meeting and meets every six weeks. The work of the Network is carried out through three key areas of work: 1 Developing a network 2 Lobbying and influencing - to improve the environment in which the work is located, and 3 Tools for action - documenting and analysing methods of work Our newsletter 'Network News' is a key communication aid to highlight and expand on the role of the Network. It is published 4 times a year and is free to members. The aims of the Network are: * to set up a network of statutory, voluntary and community groups who wish to share and support work relating to health issues; * to provide members with a platform so that their views and concerns can become known to a wider audience; * to provide information, training and advice for new community health initiatives; * to collect information and share it with members. What the Network believe: The Network: * is based on the belief that health is a basic right * recognises the right of a community to define its own health needs * believes that all communities should have equal access to health care * believes all communities should have equal rights * recognises the importance of working together and the need for support to bring about changes For further information please contact Ruth Sutherland Project Direcor Community Development and Health Network Ballybot House Newry Co.
