    I have worked in community development for over 20 years and am presently the Health Promoter for tykeTALK, the Thames Valley Preschool Speech and Language Service Alliance. I work with parents and often these women (there is the rare father in my groups) have many challenges to parenting and getting the services which their children require. I have also used your site as the Executive Director of London Area Good Food Project wherein our participants were working through challenges such as poverty, esl language challenges or nutrition challenges due to food sensitivities etc. Thanks for such an insightful and helpful site.

    The Community Action Program for Children is a federally funded initiative aimed at children 0 to 6 years. Here in Orillia, we are in the process of establishing a drop-in resource centre for teen parents (rate of births to teen mothers is 55 per 1000). We work in partnership to provide a variety of programs to parents whose children are at risk of neglect and/or abuse: parent-child enrichment programs, young mother support group, etc. We are constantly scrounging for funds, volunteers, ideas to give our community choices, programs, etc.

    I have been the executive director at Family Resources for Victoria County for the past 11 years. I am currently involved in developing and supporting food security programmes in Victoria County. Our organization has a parent child drop-in, a mobile family drop-in programme, CAPC/CPNP programmes, toylending, curriculum kit rental, a parent resource library, a child caregiver registry and parent education programmes.     I work at the Rape Crisis Center and we are looking at approaching our prevention programs using the same principles as our intervention programs (empowerment model). Basically a shifting in our thinking and program activities that have elements of developing community capacity (at least as we understand it). I am hoping to convince our funders and policy-makers to go along with us on this grand adventure. So we are looking to developing an evaluation component from the get-go in order to facilitate any future efforts.
