Question: The Institute of Economic Affairs - Kenya runs a membership programme which I am responsible for. I would like to know, how would one go about evaluating the programme?
Answer: The Community Tool Box contains a great deal of information that can help you get started. Much of this information can be found in Chapter 36. Chapter 2 on developing a logic model might also be helpful. Without knowing much about your program, I would suggest you start with answering some basic questions about the goals of the program and how you would know if it was working as intended. What is the program being evaluated? How would you know if it was successful? What standards of performance would demonstrate success? What evidence could you collect to indicate whether those standards are being met? What evidence could you collect to indicate whether the program is meeting its goals? Once you can answer those questions, you will be well on your way to developing an evaluation. Good luck.
