Question:
Hello. I am working as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Union County Carnegie Library this year. We are attempting to create a literacy program for adult learners to help them to develop their ability to improve their economic opportunities as well as to better all areas of their life, as reading is a fundamental skill. I am having problems finding out the literacy rate as well as other pertinent information in order to get started. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get started? Any information will be appreciated.
Answer:
Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for reaching out to us,
This seems like an interesting project! We have a few chapters that address this topic, and the links below will lead to them. It can be difficult at times to find existing data, so it can be helpful to do your own assessment, if that information is not ravailable online.
- Deciding where to Start
- Assessing Community Needs and Resources
- Analyzing Community Problems and Solutions
- Analyzing Problems and Goals
- Developing an Intervention
- Choosing and Adapting Community Intervention
Good Luck with the project!
