How have you used the Community Tool Box to support your work and make a difference?:
I have used the Community Tool Box in a variety of ways in recent years - as a professional, student and professor.

Aside from using the website for my own learning & development and project problem-solving; I used the "Out of the Box" contest while teaching a 3-semester-long Community Development and Change college course. Students, in the midst of their community development research projects, were asked to review the finalists for the Community Tool Box "Out of the Box." They reviewed the projects to answer: community need, community involvement, potential concerns/problems, estimated costs, implementation needs, etc.

The project allowed the students to take pieces they were using in the classroom and apply them in the real world. Students were able to visualize each of the community change elements in action and in sequence. Which made both the classroom experience and their projects that much stronger.

Students were encouraged to consider voting, which all did. They also championed their favorite projects among their classmates and cheered those that won. It was an amazing experience on all levels.

I'm the Substance Use Prevention Program Manager for Utah County, with over 592,000 residents. We provide prevention services for the entire county, by delivering evidence based strategies. We continue to have some of the lowest use rates in our state, and lower numbers than the rest of the nation. We can only keep our numbers low by offering effective prevention practices and programs.
How have you used the Community Tool Box to support your work and make a difference?:
We have used the tool box when we complete needs assessments and update our strategic plan. When looking to the internet to find resources that can truly work to help us in our efforts, the FIRST place I go is to the Community Toolbox. I know I'll find what I need to help me move forward in whatever endeavor I'm taking on in my prevention work. We used the toolbox when we were looking at collaborating with community partners. We looked at it all through our strategic planning, and it was PRICELESS. I can't tell you how many times I have referred to the toolbox to help me get down to the real tools needed to complete steps in a process. There is nothing out there that is more comprehensive and easy to use. I hope and pray it doesn't go away and remains a resource I can utilize when needed.
