Until recently I was executive director of a traditional social service agency owned by a large Catholic health system. Now, at the initiative of our local mayor, I plan to start a center to encourage and resource local efforts to implement citizen-led asset-based community development in my area of Southeastern Indiana.

I am a former director of policy, planning and development with more than 25 years experience in housing and community development programs and projects, from "concept to ribbon cutting." Victim of down-sizing effort effective as of June 30, 2000. Never expected to be looking for a new job at this point. Trying to determine, "what's next" with respect to ongoing career. Open to suggestions or leads.

I work with a grant that is exploring how volunteering occurs in low-income communities, and the types of initiatives that are organized by residents to strengthen their neighborhoods. Currently, I am developing a leadership development training for grassroots leaders to mobilize members into volunteer neighborhood efforts.

I work for KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit which empowers communities to create partnerships (amongst themselves, local businesses and, where/if possible, corporations) to spark positive, sustainable change through the building of safe, much-needed playgrounds. (Thankfully, we are included on the "100 Things You Can Do for Your Community..." poster!) I commend your organization and website for providing loads of invaluable information, tools and services which help improve communities all over the world. I also want to encourage guests, who are on the community-building journey, to consider including building new and/or restoring existing playgrounds as part of your plan. The benefits are unlimited! For playgrounds not only provide fun and healthy play opportunities for kids, they also serve as the center or pulse of communities -- especially when community residents play a hands-on role in the actual design and building of the playground. I wish everyone the best in your individual endeavors and invite you to call on KaBOOM! (www.kaboom.org) if we can be of service.
