Example 10: Implementing Social Media Efforts for Violence Prevention

As part of an Inspire Learning series by Safe State, Taffy Hunter of the Spokane Regional Domestic Violence Coalition (SRDVC) shared how her organization uses social media to change social norms and prevent violence. Through a carefully designed campaign, SRDVC has worked to influence community attitudes and promote protective behaviors that reduce multiple forms of violence.

To guide their efforts, SRDVC collaborates with community members to develop messaging that reflects local values and resonates with diverse audiences. Their social media content highlights key protective factors—such as positive relationships, community connectedness, and shared responsibility—that help prevent violence before it occurs.

The coalition also analyzes data to strengthen and refine its approach. By tracking engagement metrics, audience reach, and community feedback, SRDVC evaluates how effectively its campaign shapes attitudes and behaviors over time and adjusts its strategy accordingly.
