How have you used the Community Tool Box to support your work and make a difference?
I just wanted to send a little note saying thank you for putting this together! After graduating from a masters in Health Promotion and moving away from an academic field, I find myself wishing that there were more refreshers to these things. I'm so thankful I found this as I use it whenever we have a big community projects or need to do a needs assessment to just remind myself of the things I've learned. Thank you!!

Hi!. I am Alex Nayve. I'm working for Salanga as the focal person for community-led monitoring, evaluation and learning (ColMEL). My primary role is to lead the development of the ColMEL methodology and accompany INGO partners and their local partners to pilot it in 3 countries.
How have you used the Community Tool Box to support your work and make a difference?
The ColMEL is a component of community-led development (CLD) programming. I really appreciate the Community Tool Box because it provides access to CLD resources in a very organized way. I just love how CTB organized the resources into chapters and sections, plus all the section overviews, examples, tools and ppt. I would love to refer our partners on the ground to the CTB resources when I contribute to their capacity building soon. While I do read about a full chapter on participatory appraisal, design and evaluation in the CTB, I'd like to check whether there are chapters or sections that deal with participatory monitoring especially community-led monitoring. I will be very interested to receive resources on this topic because it is something that we really need. Thank you! Blessings and more power to CTB!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself:
Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES-Ghana) is an ECOSOC-accredited NGO at the forefront of youth development policy, practice, and research in Ghana. For more than 15 years, we provide tailored skills training for youth, leading to improvements in their leadership, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and life planning skills. Through our service delivery, we provide education, skills training, and technical support to thousands of youth and helped them transition to self and wage employment. Our research has contributed to filling the gap in youth data and the evidence base for public policy. And, we continue to use our national appeal and grassroots constituency, through our Voices of Youth Coalition, to advocate and campaign for youth-inclusive policies at all levels.
How have you used the Community Tool Box to support your work and make a difference?
YES-Ghana organised an innovative learning experience targeting representatives of youth-led organisations working at the community level to support and initiate especially local efforts at localising the SDGs. Before the learning experience, participants already benefited from an organisational capacity assessment revealing various strengths and weaknesses.
The training contents were tailored to address capacity gaps identified through the OCA exercise, while also providing a firm theoretical and practical foundation on sustainable development. Using the unique approach of the Community Tool Box, the Academy covered areas such as creating and maintaining coalitions and partnerships, assessing community needs and resources, analysing problems and goals, developing a framework or model of change, developing strategic and action plans, building leadership, developing an intervention, advocating for change and influencing policy development. Other areas include evaluating the initiative, implementing a social marketing effort, fundraising, improving organisational management and development, and sustaining initiatives.
The youth leaders from the various organisations were highly impressed with the rich content of the toolkit from the University of Kansas Community Toolbox. They could not hide their appreciation for the opportunity to learn using such a rich resource to improve the capacities of their organisations and how they implement their projects.

I'm a university student seeking to open an organization that informs the marginalized Hispanic population about different health care resources in my local community.
How have you used the Community Tool Box to support your work and make a difference?
I used the website for a project I was doing in school. We had to write a proposal to a local leader about a problem we wanted to address and I talked about outreach! This website helped me figure out important factors in producing successful outreach strategies. It really helped me write my essay. I plan to use this site for my own future project. Thank you!
