Announcing the Out of the Box Prize 2015 GRAND PRIZE WINNER:

Creating a Mother's Organization against Malnutrition in Catahuasi

Nutre-Perú is empowering women and fighting malnutrition in children 0-5 years in rural Peruvian communities. University students listened to the dreams of mothers for their children, and partnered with them to identify risk factors and create and implement locally-determined solutions. They trained community health workers to help promote breastfeeding, improve family dynamics, and increase healthy food proportions. Over two years, malnutrition decreased from 19 percent to 12 percent. Read more about their inspiring efforts, and watch the video.

Out of the Box Prize 2015 SECOND PRIZE WINNER: Charter Tool Box

The Charter for Compassion seeks to make compassionate action “go viral” in the hearts and minds of communities globally by working with them to address their most pressing needs. The Charter views compassion as a verb, moving beyond empathy to identify problems and act on solutions. In November 2014, they launched the Charter Tool Box after a 9‐month process engaging 150 of their grassroots community organizers to learn what they needed in order to create viable action plans that would bring about pronounced change. Read more and watch the Charter’s video.

We celebrate the meaningful change efforts of these two groups, and the dedicated community work of the Out of the Box Prize applicants. Thank you for your stories, submissions, and votes to honor the incredible work of communities through the Out of the Box Prize.
