Greg Meissen is Professor of Psychology at Wichita State University where he teaches community psychology, leadership and organizational development. In 1985 he founded Self-Help Network where it has grown into the WSU Center for Community Support & Research where he served as Director until 2008. During that time he worked with numerous self-groups, grassroots organizations, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and coalitions to help them build their capacity. Dr. Meissen has had faculty appointments at the Harvard School of Medicine and Boston University and has served on the Surgeon General’s Council on Self-Help and Public Health. He has received over 30 million dollars in grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, Kansas Health Foundation, Administration for Children and Families, WT Grant Foundation and SAMSHA, has published research in the New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Community Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatric Services, and has spoken at numerous international and national scientific and professional conferences.
