Example #1: Building leadership within historically marginalized populations In Finney County, Kansas, where over half the population is Latinx, women and people of color have historically been underrepresented in local leadership, with decisions often made by a small, non-diverse group. To promote community decision-making that reflects everyone’s needs, LiveWell Finney County focused on expanding leadership opportunities and gender equity, especially for Latinx women. With support from the Kansas Health Foundation, LiveWell hosted an on-site Latinx leadership training in Finney County. They worked with Tyson plant leadership to make it possible for shift workers to attend, and further removed barriers by providing childcare and food for attendees and their families. Recruitment was supported by local promotoras and trusted community partners to ensure strong community participation.
