Dear Sandra,
The Ripley Volunteer Center is looking for volunteers! Lending a hand not only fosters community well-being, but is sure to be a rewarding experience. We are seeking a variety of individuals – we’re looking for all ages, professions, and interests. We can find volunteer placements that will suit your skills and fit into your busy schedule.
Many community service organizations require volunteer assistance over the summer months and on into the fall. There are many ways you can lend a hand. Here are a few of the programs currently looking for volunteers:
The Metropolitan Heart Foundation requires volunteers to assist in their community awareness committee on preventive medicine. Activities would include visiting schools and contacting organizations to give information on heart film programs.
An experienced baker is needed to make cookies, cakes, pastries and other baked goods for the residents of a psychiatric boarding home. The hours are flexible, and bus fare and expenses will be provided.
Volunteers, age 15 and over, are needed to work in a residential center for handicapped teenagers, one day or evening per week. Opportunities include assisting staff in program planning, establishing small group or one-to-one relationships, and leading recreation and community awareness activities.
These are just a few of the opportunities available to help make a difference. Drop by or give us a call and let us know how you can help. Thank you for taking the time to consider these exciting opportunities. Your future help will be greatly appreciated, and, like many current volunteers, you will find the volunteer experience to be a rewarding one.
For further information on available volunteer opportunities, contact The Volunteer Center at 456-1122, 8-5, Monday-Friday.
Sincerely,
Jim Miller, Volunteer Recruitment Director
